I love to capture the beauty and wonder of the natural world.  I strive to be observant, patient, and conscientious when I find myself in nature.   I think it is very important that each person do all they can to protect, conserve and cherish our natural places.   I also consider it part of my life’s mission to help others see what I see and appreciate in nature, from the dramatically, breathless beauty of a foggy sunrise to the whimsical human-like expressions depicted in a damaged cactus.  My hope is to create an oasis in our highly technological world where people can pause to drink in the many wonders of the natural world.

I was born and raised in the lovely state of Ohio, where I developed an enjoyment of the outdoors from my Dad and my brother. A chance outing led me to becoming a volunteer for the Metropolitan Parks District of Columbus and Franklin County. It was through my experiences at the Metro Parks that I developed my real outdoor knowledge and my ultimate love of photography.

A member of the Betterphoto's Masterpiece program, I am showcased in the first Masterpiece Newletter and you can read my member's spotlight here.

Bruce was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland and emigrated to the United States in 1987. He became interested in photography in his early teens and rapidly became immersed in the art and technology, doing his own developing and printing in a “kitchen table” darkroom. A career in software engineering with IBM put photography into the background until the mid1980’s when he discovered SCUBA diving while on vacation in the Bahamas. Within a year he had progressed from novice diver to instructor, and found a perfect blend of new and old avocations in underwater photography. He currently has close to two thousand dives logged, virtually all of them with camera in hand.

Now retired from IBM, he works at Gypsy Divers in Raleigh, North Carolina where he divides his time between the service department and the travel desk. He organizes and leads frequent dive trips to picture worthy destinations and conducts formal and informal training classes and workshops on underwater photography. His skills and interest also extend to above water photography where he specializes in nature, landscape and animal subjects.
